About

Hazel Milburn Ito is a Honolulu-based artist and educator. She was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to rural Australia as a child. Oahu has been home since 2008. Her husband Mike Ito is a surf photographer/videographer, and they have two children.

Teaching

Alongside her studio practice, Hazel teaches high school art and works with students to cultivate curiosity, experimentation and visual thinking.

Artist Statement

My work takes many forms, including drawing, painting, photography, video and three-dimensional pieces.

Inspired by things I see, imagine or find myself curious about, I explore ideas through making, often discovering unexpected directions along the way.
